NEST seeks an emerging fundraising and communications leader to serve as our Advancement Coordinator. This is a full-time position.

Background: Founded in 2009, Northeast Seattle Together (NEST) is a growing and vibrant community of 200 aging village members, 250 community volunteers, and 68 trusted service providers. We are a grassroots nonprofit organization governed by a nine-member Board of Directors, staffed by three nonprofit professionals, and guided by the investment and active involvement of village members, community volunteers, and business partners.

NEST is driven by the belief that no one should have to grow alone – that each of us can age and grow better together. We help elders who live in Northeast Seattle to remain safe and supported in their homes through empowerment, affinity, support, and enrichment. We are one of 200 villages nationally, and one of three villages operating in the Seattle area. The NEST village supports elders in 15 Northeast Seattle neighborhoods and is bounded by the Montlake Ship Canal to the south, the Northgate Way and NE 110th Street to the north, Lake Washington to the east, and Interstate 5 to the west.

Position Summary:  In partnership with the Executive Director, Board of Directors, Program Coordinator and committee volunteers, the Advancement Coordinator plans and coordinates individual giving, corporate sponsorship, grant writing, special events and related brand communications. The Advancement Coordinator is responsible for building development and communications strategies that are consistent with the organization’s mission and vision, inspires committed supporters, and facilitates the achievement of strategic organizational goals.  The Advancement Coordinator works closely with program and administrative staff.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Donor, Sponsor, & Grant Cultivation and Management

  • Work with the Executive Director and leadership team to develop and implement annual development plan that outlines cultivation, solicitation, stewardship and acknowledgment activities that move individual donors, corporations, foundations, and volunteers to action.
  • Ensure that NEST’s online giving processes run smooth and effectively for donors, business sponsors, members, volunteers and staff.
  • Ensure that donors and business sponsors are tracked thoroughly using Salesforce.
  • Compose and produce grant applications, proposal letters, reports and other written materials.

Communications Coordination and Management

  • In partnership with the Executive Director and NEST committee members, develop digital and printed materials used to communicate with donors, business sponsors and members.
  • Develop printed materials and managing mailing processes, including working with volunteers.
  • Coordinate social media strategies with staff and volunteers.
  • Develop copy and manage web page content.

Event Coordination

  • Effectively coordinate the details for designated events so that NEST volunteers, staff and board members are clear about roles, tasks and deadlines.
  • Ensure that identified follow-up activities, such as data entry, thank you notes, invoices and payments are completed in an accurate, thorough and timely manner.
  • Participate in meetings & events to ensure effective event coordination.

General 

  • Keep the Executive Director informed donor needs and trends.
  • Ensures consistent & timely progress in meeting NEST’s goals & objectives related to donor services.
  • Collaborate on other tasks with staff and volunteers to ensure that NEST’s goals are achieved.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree and at least 3 years experience as a resource development and communications professional (equivalent education/experience may be substituted for stated requirements).
  • Experience in broad-based resource development strategies including: individual giving, major giving, special events, planned giving, corporate and foundation giving.
  • Experience developing online and printed materials for income-producing and brand development purposes.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a changing, entrepreneurial, and program start-up environment.
  • Effective planning and implementing skills, demonstrated ability to prioritize activities and be comfortable dealing with ambiguity
  • Knowledge and experience with resource development database applications (Salesforce strongly preferred).
  • Commitment to the mission and goals of the organization.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Suite, WordPress, design program (InDesign, Publisher) and CRM.

Preferred

  • Skilled using SalesForce, Publisher, InDesign
  • Demonstrated ability to manage grants, grant writing experience a plus.
  • Valid driver’s license and regular access to personal vehicle.
  • Familiar with the needs and wants of people aged 65 and older.
  • Experience coordinating action steps with volunteers.
  • Experience in a community center setting.

Compensation:

  • $42,000-$47,000 annually, DOE
  • Medical insurance
