There are two days in February of significance for NEST. February 14 marks our 12th Anniversary, and February 15 is National Village Day! It's hard to believe that it's already been 12 years since NEST officially opened it's doors. It's time to do some celebrating this month to cheer the continued connections created between neighbors, turning strangers into friends, and even lifelong companions.
NEST will be hosting a little fundraising concert of love for the community and for the organization. If you have a fondness for classical opera music, musicial theater, and art songs, you don't want to miss this event. Spend an afternoon with us for a selection of love songs featuring local artists Ksenia Popova, Glenda Williams, and Michael Drumheller.

Michael Drumheller is originally from Richland, Washington. A favorite bass-baritone in the Pacific Northwest opera and classical scenes, he has been a soloist with Seattle Symphony, Boston Lyric Opera, Tacoma Opera, Skagit Opera, Seattle Gilbert & Sullivan Society, Cleveland Orchestra, Orchestra Seattle, and many other organizations, under the direction of renowned conductors including Robert Spano, Gerard Schwarz, and Leonard Slatkin. As a recitalist, he is especially interested in Russian music, and has been an invited performer of Russian vocal repertoire at the Icicle Creek Music Festival and at Wellesley College. Mr. Drumheller holds a Master’s degree in Vocal Performance from Boston University. He will be appearing as Monterone in Rigoletto with Ms. Popova this May.

Soprano Ksenia Popova has been hailed by The News Tribune as “a soprano to watch.”Ms. Popova has performed major roles with the Greater Seattle Choral Consortium, Sammish Symphony Orchestra, Tacoma Opera, Pacific Northwest Opera, and Vashon Opera. In addition, she is a Metropolitan Opera National Council Third Place Regional winner. Ms. Popova occasionally dips her toes into Musical Theatre, performing the role of Pat Collins in the US premiere of Stephen Edwards’s Moon Landing. Ms. Popova is the founder of Opera on Tap Seattle, a nonprofit that brings opera to the masses via your local dive bar. Ms. Popova will be returning to Vashon Opera as Gilda (Rigoletto) in early May 2023.

Pianist Glenda Williams has an undergraduate degree in music theory from the University of Puget Sound and was in the master’s program in music history at the University of Washington. She was employed by both of these institutions as an accompanist and later spent several years as a coach and accompanist at UW and Cornish College of the Arts. She was the main accompanist for the Seattle Opera Guild’s series of opera previews and an accompanist at Pacific Northwest Ballet. Glenda eventually ventured into the realm of musical theater, as a music director and conductor, with over a hundred productions to her credit. Post-COVID, Glenda has been busy with frequent Opera on Tap Seattle performances and presentations for the Seattle Opera Guild.
